Jamf Importer for Assets syncs Computers, Mobile Devices, Applications, Users and more from Jamf Pro into JSM Assets, so your Apple devices sit alongside the rest of your IT estate.
Before you start
You need an active JSM Cloud Premium or Enterprise subscription and a Jamf Pro administrator who can create API roles.
1. Choose how the importer signs in
The recommended way is a Jamf Pro API client (Client ID and Client Secret) with an API role. Give the role only the privileges for the object types you want:
| Privilege | Needed for |
|---|---|
Read Computers | Computers |
Read Mobile Devices | Mobile Devices |
Read User | Users |
Read Departments | Departments |
Read Buildings | Buildings |
Read Computer PreStage Enrollments | Computer Prestage Enrollments (beta) |
The alternative is username and password: create a dedicated Jamf Pro user with the Full Access access level and the Auditor privilege set.
2. Import
Enter your Jamf Pro URL and credentials in the importer, pick your object types and run the import. A typical sync finishes in under five minutes. Computers are the central record, linked to Platforms, Models, Storage, Certificates, Users, Departments and Buildings.
3. Bring your extension attributes
Many teams track their own data in Jamf through extension attributes, for example a custom asset tag or a security agent version. The importer can map up to 10 computer extension attributes directly onto Computer records in Assets, so that data shows up where your agents work.
4. Use the compliance dashboard
The Dashboard tab gives an import overview and compliance metrics, with trend graphs for both Computers and Mobile Devices. It tracks:
- Managed and Supervised status
- Firewall, SIP and Recovery Lock
- Automated Device Enrollment (ADE)
You can measure these against frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001 and NIST.
Tip: jump straight to Jamf
Computer and Mobile Device records in Assets include a Go to Jamf link. Agents can open the device in Jamf Pro straight from a ticket, with no searching.
